SERVICE >TAKING CARE OF YOUR POOL
Some things you can, and should, do.
- Test your chlorine levels and your pH levels
(with a test kit from Patio Pools) and maintain those at the proper levels.
Adding chemicals to a swimming pool or spa on a regular basis is a necessity
if you want the water to be safe, clean and refreshing.
- Brush the pool regularly, at least once
a week.
- Skim the pool's surface regularly using
a large net. You'll save wear and tear on your mechanical systems if you
remove as much debris as possible before the cleaning and filtering system
has to deal with it.
- Maintain your pools water levels,
The water should be approximately 3 1/2 inches from the top of the highest
tile. The mechanical equipment will function better that way.
- If the water level seems to be dropping
faster than normal, check for leaks. Most leaks occur in and around the
mechanical equipment-valves can leak after many years, connections may not
be tight or there could be a crack in one of the PVC pipes. Look for wetness
under your pump, filter, motor or other equipment. If you find something,
you might be able to fix it yourself. Some leaks of course occur in the
body of the pool and that's not something you should attempt to fix. The
best bet if you believe you have a leak, is call Patio Pools. We'll know
what to do.
- Clean the filter regularly. A "regular" cleaning
cycle depends on the kind of filter you have-some need to be cleaned
more often than others. We can tell you how often you should do it.
- Clean the skimmer and the pump baskets regularly.
Debris in these areas can make your pump work much harder than necessary.
It can even stop working entirely if the water flow is blocked.
Some things we could do for you.
- Servicing or repairing pumps, motors, filters,
heaters and other mechanical equipment is a job for a professional. There
may be some part of the process you can do (if you are really mechanically
inclined) but most of it, for most people, needs to be done by an expert.
- Replacing old, worn-out or damaged equipment
is also a job for a professional, especially since after 5 or 10 years,
the technology is likely to have changed so much that what you're putting
in is not the same as what you are taking out. That can be more complicated
than you want to handle.
- Fixing is a leak that's within the body
of the pool, or underground in the circulation system, is a big job. Don't
do it.
The bottom line is this-the technology of a
swimming pool or spa is complicated and sophisticated. If you have a leak,
equipment that is not running properly, water that is not clear or clean,
visible evidence of algae, or anything else that just doesn't seem right to
you, it's best to call a professional for advice or assistance. Call Patio
Pools. We'll find the problem, explain to you what it takes to fix it, and
proceed as you direct. That's the most efficient and cost-efficient long term
solution!
